Violinist Fiddler Profile

“I think Natalya’s fiddling is the prettiest around and it’s a pleasure playing with her.  She’s like E.F. Hutton; when she plays, everybody listens!”   –Legendary bluegrass fiddler Jim Shumate

Natalya Weinstein is an accomplished violinist and teacher in a variety of styles, from classical to bluegrass.  She currently resides in Asheville and performs with a number of regionally touring bands, including Polecat Creek and Red June.  Natalya has played at prestigious festivals across the country, including Grey Fox and Merlefest.  She is a champion fiddler, winning contests in both the North and the South.  Natalya is also in demand as a session musician and has recorded on many albums, including projects at Echo Mountain, Hollow Reed Studio, and Upstream Productions here in the Asheville area.

Her musical upbringing began at age 5 and consisted of many years of Suzuki violin and classical music training. She grew up in a musical household, and her grandfather was a full-time Klezmer musician.  During college Natalya began branching out to different styles of music including jazz, country, old-time and bluegrass.  Upon her arrival in Asheville in 2004, she began focusing primarily on fiddle styles of the Southern Appalachians.
