Violinist Fiddler Profile

“I think Natalya’s fiddling is the prettiest around and it’s a pleasure playing with her.  She’s like E.F. Hutton; when she plays, everybody listens!”   –Legendary bluegrass fiddler Jim Shumate

Natalya Weinstein is an accomplished violinist and teacher in a variety of styles, from classical to bluegrass.  She currently resides in Asheville and performs with Red June, a nationally touring acoustic Americana trio.  Natalya has played at prestigious festivals across the country, including Grey Fox and Merlefest.  She is a champion fiddler, winning contests in both the North and the South.  Natalya is also in demand as a session musician and has recorded on many albums, including projects at Echo Mountain, Hollow Reed Arts Studio, and Upstream Productions, among others.

Her musical upbringing began at age 5 and consisted of many years of Suzuki violin and classical music training. She grew up in a musical household, and her grandfather was a full-time Klezmer musician.  During college Natalya began branching out to different styles of music including jazz, country, old-time and bluegrass.  Upon her arrival in Asheville in 2004, she began focusing primarily on fiddle styles of the Southern Appalachians and has learned from many renowned musicians in the area including her husband and music partner, John Cloyd Miller.
